ORFORDVILLE - Kenneth Jacob Speich, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Reston Medical Center in Reston, Virginia.
He was born September 4, 1926 in Monroe, the son of Jacob and Irene (Roderick) Speich.
He graduated from Albany High School in 1944.
Kenneth and Marybelle Rossiter were married on February 16, 1949 in Janesville, Wisconsin at the Congregational Church.
Ken farmed in Orfordville with his brothers Harris and Ted Speich. He served on the Spring Valley Township Board for 38 years, and 35 years as the chairman. He also served on the Orfordville Fire Protection District Board for over 30 years. Ken was a member of Orfordville Lutheran Church.
Ken enjoyed summer trips to the Outer Banks, N. C. with his family, watching Green Bay Packers games and high school basketball tournaments, having his morning coffee at the fire station, and watching Polka Joe on television.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary, and their five children, Jacquelyn Kay Socwell of Orfordville, Kendra Jean Morrow (Barry) of Great Falls, Virginia, Christopher Clyde Speich of Orfordville, Kurt Douglas Speich (Cindy) of Whitewater, and Thomas Jacob Speich (Stacey) of Orfordville; their ten grandchildren: Christopher Daniels (Dawn), Jennifer Schmitz (James), Matthew Socwell (Ute'), Kimberly Alms (William), Jonathan Daniels (Kerilynn), Andrew Ludeman, Nathanial Socwell, Jacob Speich, Alex Seichter, and Nathan Seichter; and they have been blessed with 13 Great-grandchildren. Kenneth is also survived by his sister Ellen Schindler of Juda, his brother Ted Speich (Donna) of Orfordville, and his sister-in-law Ilene Speich of Orfordville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Irene Speich, brother Harris Speich, and granddaughter Melissa Speich.
Funeral services will be held at the Orfordville Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2010, with Pastor Mary Froiland officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI .
Friends may call at Newcomer-Silverthorn Chapel on the Hill, Hwy 11 and South Coon Island Road, Orfordville on Tuesday, September 14 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
