Kenneth E. Mohns, 64 of La Crosse died on Sunday, February 5th, 2017 at the Gundersen Health System. He was born May 28th, 1952 in Monroe, WI to Samuel and Jeannine (Conway) Mohns and graduated from Juda High School in 1970. He then farmed for a time with his father and brother in Melrose before returning to school and earning his Associated Degree in Horticulture in Waseca, MN.

Ken worked in La Crosse at the Holiday Gas Station, Marriott Hotel and for the past nine years as chef for the Moose Lodge 1920. He was very active at the Moose Lodge where he found himself surrounded by new friends that quickly became more like family. He had two special chefs that he trained, Austin and Jake who became more like sons. Ken enjoyed collecting elephants, telling quick-witted jokes, antiquing and gardening. He was always willing to help others at any time, especially those in his neighborhood.

We will always remember Ken telling us, that family was the most important - you always help family; that's just what you do. Ken was the heart of our family and heart of our Christmas. He was known for having as many as five Christmas trees in his house at once. Every year he made hundreds of Christmas cookies with his family; ginger bread was his specialty. On Christmas eve he took pride in showing off his Christmas decorations and always served his homemade oyster stew. He was also known for his beautiful flower gardens. He shared many flowers with his family and his memory will live on in our gardens forever.

Ken is survived by a brother and two sisters; Fred Mohns (Kris Stone) of Madison, Christine (Bob) Wilson of Warrens and Beverly (Scott) Jim Lawrence of La Crosse; seven nephews, three nieces, several great nieces and nephews and four aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Jeannine Mohns, four uncles and an aunt, Rose Crabtree.

A celebration of Ken's Life will be held on Saturday February 11th, 2017 from 1-4pm at the Brodhead Congregational United Church, E201 23rd St. Brodhead, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ken's name to Mooseheart Child City & School Inc., located in Mooseheart, IL 60539 or an organization of the donor's choice.
