Karen Bender Doll died at her home in Patterson North Carolina, on Sunday, November 28, 2010. She was born in Berlin, Wisconsin November 13, 1932 the third child of the late Willard C. and Florian Bender. A son Maximus Martin Doll and a sister Jane Ann Bender preceded her in death.
Karen graduated from Monroe High School, Monroe Wisconsin in 1950 and earned a BA in Art History from Clark College, Dubuque, Iowa in 1954. Karen and Max Doll were married in Saint Victor's Church, Monroe, December 28, 1955, then settled in Patterson N.C. to raise a family. She earned a masters degree in Library science from Appalachian State University, before retiring as head of the Caldwell county libraries in 2006. She and her husband worked tirelessly with Habitat for Humanity and as a member of the Lenoir Woman's Club, the Happy Valley Ruritan Club and the Lenoir Service Club, she created countless doll clothes for "Toys for tots."
Her husband Max, sons Peter, Mark, Christopher, John, a daughter, Mary Katherine and two brothers W.A. Bender and Daniel P. Bender, survive Mrs. Doll. Her Midwestern nieces and nephews are Lara Bender Lambert, Rosemount, MN, Mary Jane Bender, New Prague MN, Dr. Michael A. Bender, Fort Atkinson WI, Carol Bender Riese, Monroe, MI, Matthew D. Bender, Wisconsin Rapids, John Ty Bender, Milwaukee and Raymond Daniel and Willard C. Bender, Baraboo, WI.
