Julene H. Knouse, age 82 of Monroe died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at her home. Julene was born December 6, 1933 in Jo Daviess County, the daughter of William and Myrtle (Williams) Appel. She graduated from Stockton High School in 1951 and married Lawrence Folgate on January 9, 1955. She farmed with Lawrence for 11 years in Buckeye Township, Stephenson County until his death in 1966. She married Glenn L. Knouse on February 3, 1968 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2014. Julene worked for the Kroeger Burt & DeMik Law office in Freeport for 11 years. She was a member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church, the Womens Missionary, Orangeville Rebekah Lodge, and the Orangeville Home Extension. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Julene's favorite hobbies were sewing, quilting, flowers, and gardening. Her specialty was making flower sack quilts that she gifted to family and donated to nursing homes and fundraisers for her church.

She is survived by three children, Nancy (Tad) Story of Rockton, IL and their children, Catherine (Tim) Urban and Margaret Shirmer, Norman (Julie) Folgate of Freeport and their children, Mike (Tina) Folgate and Nicole (Jon Jay) Lewis, and Helen (Dennis) Johnson of Monroe and their children, Eric and Andy Johnson; five great grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Phyllis) Appel of Milan, IL; and a sister, Wilma Jean (Karl) Schubert of Darlington. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a granddaughter, Christina Folgate; and a half-brother, William Appel Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Orangeville United Methodist Church, 111 S. East Street, with Pastor Judith Sherk officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
