Josephine Marie Zueger, age 77, of 2203 Riverview Drive, Rock Falls, Ill., died Thursday, April 24, 2008 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois.
Josy was born on October 7, 1930 in Freidorf, Switzerland, the daughter of Ulrich and Anna (Huber) Zuend. She was united in marriage to Tony Zueger on October 7, 1957 in Haggenschwil, Switzerland. She was a former member of St. John's Altar and Rosary Society, Ohio Home Extension, Swiss Singers of Monroe and St. John's Catholic Church Choir. Her hobbies included knitting, cooking, gardening, singing and jodeling. She was the inspiration and motivation of the new Avanti Foods Cheese Shop in 1978. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church of Rock Falls and Red Hats of Rock Falls.
She is survived by her husband Tony of Rock Falls, Ill.; two daughters, Doris Zueger of Bronschofen, Switzerland, and Marlies (Markus) Fisch of Walnut, Ill.; one son Anton (Jeri) Zueger of Walnut, Ill.; five grandchildren; one sister Cecilia Eberle of St. Gallen, Switzerland; three brothers, Josef (Julia) Zuend of Amherst, New Hampshire, and Karl and Leo Zuend, both of Switzerland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister-in-law and two brothers.
Funeral prayer services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Garland Funeral Home followed by Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Walnut with the Rev. Dan Wilder and Monsigner Thomas Dzielack, co-officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Cemetery.
