Joseph Harvey Trebian, age 81 of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington, WI. He was born June 6, 1927 in Shullsburg, the son of Carl and Viola (O'Neill) Trebian. Harvey was united in marriage to Helen C. Shields on October 14, 1961 at St. Raphael Cathedral, Madison, WI. Harvey lived in Shullsburg all of his life. He worked as a foreman for Eagle Pitcher Mining Company for a number of years. He also owned and operated Trebian DX Station in Shullsburg for a short time before working as a mechanic for Freymiller Trucking. Harvey worked as a mechanic for the Green County Highway Department from 1981 until his retirement in 1992. Following his retirement Harvey worked at the O'Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home.
Harvey is survived by four children: James (Vicki) Trebian of Madison, Judy (Harold) LaVallee of Somers, CT, Ann Trebian of Madison, Nancy (Joseph) Edge of Shullsburg; six grandchildren: Ben and Lucas Trebian, Nicolaus and Nathan LaVallee, Evan and Helen Edge; one brother: Duane (Alberta) Trebian of Galena, IL; one sister: Margie Blackbourn of Winslow, IL; three sisters-in-law: Donna O'Kroley of Madison, Margaret (Clifford) Aide of Montfort, WI, Karen (LeRoy) Rickli of Rio, WI. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen on September 5, 1994; two brothers: Roudell (Letha) and Clifford "Barney" (Ann) Trebian.
Harvey was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Shullsburg and its Knights of Columbus #7501, past member and Assistant Fire Chief of the Shullsburg Fire Department, and committee member of the Emily Franz Scholarship Fund. He also was a volunteer for Lafayette County SUN Program and St. Vincent DePaul store in Shullsburg. He was an avid Braves baseball, Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badgers fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and later on Harvey loved spending time with his grandchildren, reading and volunteering his time wherever it was needed. Harvey taught his children life lessons by leading by example. He will also be remembered by those who knew him by his reply "Not bad for an old fella" when asked how he was doing. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends and neighbors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Shullsburg, with Reverend James R. Lins officiating. Burial will be at St. Matthew Cemetery, rural Shullsburg.
