Josefa "Josy" Meier, age 94 of South Wayne, WI passed away on Monday, October 20, 2008, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. She was born on July 26, 1914, in Schluderns, Italy (SudTirol), the daughter of Josef and Katarina Trafoier. She married Werner Meier April 19, 1952 in Switzerland. In 1953, she and Werner immigrated to the United States and settled in Wisconsin. Josefa cooked at the Alpine Café in New Glarus; Monroe Manor, and worked many years at Advance Transformer, Monroe.
Josefa was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in South Wayne. Josefa enjoyed working around the farm, gardening and taking care of the vineyard, sewing and cooking. Whenever visiting with her, you were generally served with a glass of wine and a snack or meal. She was dedicated to the family and always put their needs first.
Surviving are three daughters, Trudy (James) Ross, Pearl City, IL, Kathy (Lester) Talbert, Stockton, IL, and Barbara (Walter) Igl, Merrill; a son, Markus Meier, South Wayne, (fiancee' Marlene Hartwig; two sons, Jonathan Lange (Deanna Dinderman), Dakota, IL, and Eric (Tracy) Lange, South Wayne; two granddaughters, Alyssa Lange and Madyson Lange, South Wayne); a granddaughter, Brieanna Igl, Merrill; one brother, Louis Trafoier, Schluderns, Italy; two sisters, Kathi Kuntner, Schluderns, Italy, and Filomena Seiler, Basel, Switzerland, along with nieces and nephews throughout Europe and Australia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Werner; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; several siblings in infancy; five brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law, and one nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Gratiot, with Fr. David Wanish as Celebrant. Friends may call at the Church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home, 1455 Mansion Dr., Monroe, where a Rosary will be prayed at 8 p.m. Hanson Funeral Home, South Wayne is serving the family.
