John T. "Jack" Cline, age 95, of Monroe, WI, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. He was born July 6, 1916, in Lamont Township in Lafayette County, WI, the son of Roy and Mabel (Matley) Cline. John graduated from Darlington High School in 1934. He lived and farmed in the Darlington and Monroe area all of his life. John served in the United States Navy during World War II enlisting on December 8, 1941, in Dubuque, IA, serving in Pacific Waters until being honorable discharged on October 11, 1945. He was united in marriage to Marilyn Paulson on October 12, 1946. John worked at Advance Transformer in Monroe for many years. He also worked as a security guard for Pinkerton and Wackenhut and later as a greeter for Wal-Mart retiring in 2002.

John is survived by 13 children: Richard (Elaine) Cline of Platteville, WI, James (Barb) Cline of Stevens Point, WI, Marty (Ron) Balsiger of Monroe, Nancy (Lavern) Benson of West Salem, WI, Ruth (Curt) Zentner of Monroe, Peter (Debra) Cline of Brodhead, WI, Philip (Christine) Cline of Argyle, WI, Bruce (Marilyn) Cline of Monroe, Brian (Connie) Cline of Monroe, Daniel (Jeanette) Cline of Platteville, WI, John W. (Jennifer) Cline of Shannon, IL, Patricia (Jodi) Cline of Trempealeau, WI, and Heather (Rhiannan Richardson) Cline of West Salem; 34 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister: Elizabeth Kahl of Mount Horeb, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Marilyn on May 24, 2008; one brother: David Cline; and two sisters: Philippa Morgan and Margaret Seifert.

John was a member of Order of Moose Lodge #154 of Monroe and Lafayette County Historical Society. He was also a member of Disabled American Veterans, and former member of Monticello American Legion Post and VFW. John was an avid reader, especially history and family genealogy.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 508 Main Street in Darlington with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman of Apple Grove Lutheran Church in Argyle officiating. Burial will be in Fayette Methodist Cemetery in rural Darlington with military rites to be accorded by Bates-O'Brien-Howe-Wiegel American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be held Monday, November 21, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
