Joanne L. Ahrens, age 82, passed away Monday, July 13th at her home. She was born September 4, 1932 in Osage, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and LuLu Hiner. Joanne attended the University of Iowa. She married Lester Ahrens Jr. on August 16, 1951 in Osage, Iowa. A gifted musician and vocalist, Joanne and two of her friends enjoyed performing at various venues around Iowa, before moving to Monroe. As well as being a wife and full-time mother, Joanne worked with her husband at the Montgomery Ward's store and then at Swiss Colony in Monroe. She enjoyed playing piano, gardening, knitting, reading, and traveling with her husband. She is survived by three sons, Lester J. (Rochelle) Ahrens III of Palmyra, David R. Ahrens of Fitchburg, Dennis D. Ahrens of Browntown; grandson, Lester J. (Corey) Ahrens IV of West Bend and her two great grandsons, Colton and Brantley. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald Hiner; and her husband, Lester Ahrens Jr. Per Joanne's request, no services will be held. Burial will be held in Osage Cemetery, Osage, Iowa. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
