Our dear friend and loving mother, Jeannette Gempeler, 95, made her transition back to God's loving arms on February 27, 2012.
Jeannette was born on July 16, 1916 in Belmont, Wisconsin, the daughter of Lester and Laura (Beaver) Ashton. Jeannette graduated Valedictorian of her Madison Central High School Class of 1935. Working at Manchester's in Madison was a thrill especially when waiting on Mrs. Manchester. On December 31, 1938, Jeannette married Roy Edwin Gempeler in the St. John's United Church of Christ. They started their lives together on the Gempeler family farm, on County Road K, south of Monroe.
Jenny loved music, her friends, teaching, learning, and reading. She was an active member of St. John's Church where she sang in the choir, played the organ, and taught her many flute students for nearly 40 years. Jenny held all of her flute recitals at the church. She was a 40-year member of the Monroe City Band playing flute and piccolo, and loved the summer concerts at the Monroe Band Shell. Working as a librarian at the Arabut Ludlow Memorial Library was another love of hers, where she could recommend books and make new friends. Even after retiring from teaching, playing music, and the library, her passion for staying connected to her many friends was continued at her "home away from home", Chocolate Temptations.
The following family members remain with hearts full of love for Jenny: Children, Elsbeth Diane Mingus, Tucson, AZ, Cathleen Joyce Gempeler, Apple Valley, MN, James Lee Gempeler, Blue Mounds, WI; grandchildren, Abram Bland (Bette's son), Tucson, AZ and Heidi Gempeler (Jim's daughter), Blue Mounds, WI; great-grandchildren, Cody and Carson Bland, Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; sisters, Margaret Hughs and Marguerite Boynton.
Jeannette loved life, her family, and her many friends, and will be forever remembered by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Memorials may be given in Jeannette's name to St. John's United Church of Christ.
