James R. Wegman (Jim) age 82, of Monroe, passed away on December 26, 2012 at his home. He was born March 9, 1930 in Flint, MI the son of Frank and Ruth (Murphy) Wegman. He graduated from Cotter High School in Winona, MN in 1949. Jim was a four year veteran of the U.S. Navy and served from 1951-1955 on the U.S.S. Des Moines and U.S.S. Wisconsin (Korean War). He was awarded The National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Jim and Phyllis (Pellowski) were married on April 14, 1956 in Winona, MN.
He was a 56 year member of B.A.C. (Bricklayer and Allied Craftsman) and worked as a bricklayer in the Chicago, Madison and Janesville areas until his retirement in 1992.
Jim enjoyed golf, cards, fishing and the family cottage on Lake Redstone in Reedsburg, WI. He played basketball and baseball in high school and loved all sports. He was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church and a life-time member of V.F.W. of Janesville, WI.
In retirement Jim and Phyllis spent 15 years traveling south in their Winnebago Warrior R.V. and eventually became "Winter Texans" in Texas. Jim and Phyllis moved to Monroe in 2008.
Jim is survived by his wife Phyllis of Monroe, 3 children, Sue (Terry) Heinzelman of Monroe; Diane Parish of Oconomowoc, and Pete Wegman of Deforest; 7 grandchildren: Katie, Kelly, Thomas, Ali, Jill, Danielle, and Lexi; 1 great-grandchild, Madalyn; sister-in-law Mary Lou; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Louis Richter; brother, Charles Wegman; and brother-in-law, Rod Pellowski.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and 18th Ave. in Monroe, WI with Fr. Larry Bakke celebrant. A visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona, Minnesota. Memorials may be made in Jim's memory to the Monroe Clinic Palliative Care or the Monroe Clinic Hospice.
