James O. Galway, age 86 of Lena, IL passed away Thursday April 30, 2015 at the Lena Living Center. He was born March 30, 1929 in Winslow, IL to Orville and Kathleen (Stark) Galway. On October 15, 1955, James and Jean Teehan were married in Monroe, WI at St. Victor's Rectory.
James worked for Burgess Cellulose from 1958 to 1978. He then worked as an insurance broker for the Marvin F. Uecker Agency from 1978 until retirement in 1998.
After graduating from Winslow High School in 1947, he attended Lacrosse State. In 1948, he entered the Navy. In 1950, he was involved in the Inchon landing in Korea. He served two six month tours in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a member of the Winslow Legion for 50 years where he served as commander. He was recently honored by the American Legion for being a member in good standing continuously for 60 years. He was a member of the Winslow Fire Department while living in Winslow. Jim was an avid sports fan and participated in sports throughout high school. He was active as a little league coach. He was a great Cubs and Bear fan.
Surviving are his wife, Jean of Lena, son, Dan (Beth) of Plano, TX and daughter Lori Galway of Phoenix, Az. Two granddaughters, Dana and Sydney Galway of Plano, TX.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday May 5, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lena.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 till 7:00 PM on Monday May 4, 2015 at the Leamon Funeral Home.
Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
A memorial has been established in his name.
