ORANGEVILLE - James Loral Stites, 72, passed away on March 26, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Madison, WI. He was born on May 27, 1935 in Oneco Township, Stephenson County, Illinois, to Loral Charles and Marion Alice (Ezard) Stites. James was a graduate of Orangeville High School. He served our country as Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from November 16, 1954 to August 17, 1956. Jim married Janice Schoville on March 9, 1957 in Afton, Wisconsin. He was an honorary member of the Red Oak United Methodist Church and a member of the Orangeville United Methodist Church. He belonged to the United Steel Workers Union Local #745, the Orangeville Odd Fellows Club, and he coached the Little League Red Caps of Orangeville. Jim enjoyed working with his hands, playing golf, and fishing and he always enjoyed a good joke, but most of all he enjoyed his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Janice of Orangeville; his children, Julie (Tom) Ohms of Stockton, Jeanne Mueller of Winslow, Jim (Mary) Stites of Orangeville, Jonathon Stites of Freeport, Jack (Jody) Stites of Princeton, IL, Jeff (Dorothy) Stites of Orangeville, Jill (Tom) Melland of Monroe, WI; 14 grandchildren, Courtney (Tim) Lestikow, Sophie Barrett, Katie Mueller, Nick Stites, Carly Stites, Michael Stites, Gabriel Stites, Elizabeth Stites, Alex Stites, Mitchell Stites, Chelsea Holland, Randy Melland, Amanda Melland, Olivia Melland; 3 great-grandchildren, Aslynn Lestikow, Ava Lestikow, Kelys McKay. He is also survived by a sister, Marlene (Roscoe) Davis, Orangeville, and a brother, Ronald Stites of Lodi, WI.
His parents and a son-in-law, Randy Holland, preceded him in death.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church in Orangeville, IL. Pastor Donald Jamerson will officiate the service.
Cremation rites will be accorded following the service.
A private family burial will be held at a later date in Orangeville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Orangeville United Methodist Church. A memorial has been established in his name for the Red Oak and Orangeville United Methodist Churches and the cancer fund.
