WARREN - James L. Hess, 63, of Warren passed away on April 5, 2011 at FHN Memorial Hospital in Freeport. He was born on June 22, 1947 in Monroe, Wisconsin to Everett D. and Dorothy (Shultz) Hess. Jim was a graduate of Warren High School in the class of 1965. He attended Highland Community College and received his associate's degree. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard for 6 years during the Vietnam era. He started working for Winstead's Grocery in Warren and later Lee's Grocery in Freeport, IL. He was a supervisor at Micro Switch Honeywell in Freeport for many years and retired in 2002. After retirement he worked for Hatfields Hardware in Warren. He attended Gratiot Evangelical Free Church in Gratiot, WI and was a member of the Warren American Legion Wickler-Copeland Post 464. Jim served as Zoning Administrator and was also a Village Trustee for Warren. Jim served on the JoDaviess County Home Healthcare Board. For many years he participated in trap shooting events where he made many friends. Jim also enjoyed working in his shop, traveling, a drive through the countryside and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are 2 sons Todd Hess of Stockton, IL, Keith (Krissy) Hess of Warren, 1 brother David (Rose) Hess of Galena, 1 sister Rose Marie (Hank) Steuart of Warren, 6 grandchildren; Alyssa, Matthew, Darren, Dakota, Logan and Bear Hess. He is survived by his dear friend Theresa St. Ores of Warren, many nieces, nephews and special friends Jerry and Barb Hatfield of Warren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 infant son Bruce.

Services will be held on Saturday April 9, 2011 at 11:00 am. at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home in Warren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. at Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.

Pastor Glenn Andes will officiate the services.

Cremation rites will follow after the funeral services on Saturday.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.
