BRODHEAD - James "Jim" Arthur Hook, age 84, died Saturday, March 10, 2012 after a short illness at home with his family. Jim was born in Highland Park, IL, the son of Arthur and Katherine Hook (both deceased) of Eustis FL. Jim was the oldest of 4 children, Joann (Hook) Sanders, Beloit, WI (deceased), Oliver (Mickey) Hook, Eustis, FL, and Annette (Hook) Reece, Mt. Dora FL. The Hook family moved to farm in Rockton, IL in 1948. Shortly after moving to Rockton Jim joined the U.S. Army as a cook and served 4 years and was honorably discharged. During that time he met his wife, Beverly "Bev" Ann (Drevdahl) Hook (deceased 2004). During their first years of marriage Jim joined the U.S. Naval Reserves for 3 years as a cook during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. They had 4 children, Betty Jo (Edwin) Chessel, Browntown, WI, Linda Jean Hook (deceased), Debra Sue (Farin) Schultz, Brodhead, WI, and Jenny Louise (Hook) Baldwin, Brodhead, WI. He was loved by his grandchildren, Shawn Cook, Roni Anderson, Kasey Baldwin, Melissa Baldwin, and great-grandchildren, Kyle Olson, Reece Anderson, Morgan Cook, Paige Cook, Nathan Baldwin, Ashley Tuck, Samantha Baldwin, and Ryan Eells. Jim's working career was as a maintenance mechanic at Epson, Belvidere, IL, until 1972, when he and his family moved to Brodhead where he started working at Woodbridge (formerly Janesville Products). He worked there as a maintenance mechanic until being diagnosed with colon cancer in 1997, and retired. He loved his family, enjoyed cook outs and other activities around home, and trips to Dubuque, IA. He was fondly known as "Lucky Dog." Jenny and caregiver John Coldiron lived with her parents and were the primary care givers during Bev's short illness, and Jim's care thereafter. We are very thankful for Lisa and Angie of Monroe Clinic Hospice for all their kindness. There will be a memorial gathering for Jim from 2 until 5pm on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the D.L. Newcomer Funeral Home, 1105 E. 9th Ave., Brodhead, WI, with a time for sharing at 4pm.
