James H. Lewis, age 72, Argyle, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Monroe Clinic Hospital. He was born on June 10, 1936 in rural Argyle, the son of James M. and Margaret (Hale) Lewis.

James was a graduate of Argyle High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on October 24, 1958 and was discharged October 1960, he served overseas for 1 1/2 years in the infantry and was ranked Spec 4 in the U.S. Army. On May 27, 1960 he married Jane Wendler in Brodhead. He was a dairy farmer in rural Argyle and horse shoer. After he retired from farming he owned and operated Honest Jim's Trucking.

He was a member of the Blackhawk Saddle Club and the Monroe V.F.W. He enjoyed horses, dogs and all animals.

He is survived by 4 children, Jim Jr. (Michelle) Lewis, Reno, NV, Jeff (Mary Johnson) Lewis, Argyle, Jolene (Terry Holm) Lewis, Winslow, IL., Jon J. (Fiancée Nicole Folgate) Lewis, Gratiot; brothers, Lloyd Lewis, Dubuque, Iowa and Alan (Kathy) Lewis, Rhinelander; 4 grandchildren, Hank and Jessica Holm, and James and William Lewis.

He was predeceased by his parent's and wife Jane, August 3, 1998.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME in Monroe with Pastor Margo Peterson of Warren Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established in his name.
