Jacob Robert Ellefson, age 14 of Monroe, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 7, 2012. Jake was born December 22, 1997 in Monroe, the son of Kurt and Teri (Hayes) Ellefson. He recently graduated from Monroe Middle School and was confirmed at St. Victor Catholic Church. Jake was best described by his parents as a caring, respectful, and polite young man who loved sports. He loved to play football where he was a wide receiver on the Monroe Blaze squad. He played baseball for several years and this spring could be found roaming the outfield for the Monroe American Legion squad. Fishing and hunting were also high on Jake's list and this spring he shot his first Tom Turkey while spending time with his Dad. He was an active member of his church and enjoyed serving on T.V. Mass. Jake loved the time spent with his family, friends, and teammates. In death, Jake gave the gift of life through organ donation.
He is survived by his loving parents, Kurt and Teri Ellefson; his sister, Samantha Ellefson; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Hayes; paternal grandfather, Robert Ellefson, all of Monroe; Aunts and Uncles, Tim (Chandra) Hayes of Monroe, Keith (Ronda) Ellefson of Beloit, Steve (Ranee) Ellefson-Jones of Monroe; cousins, Jonathan and Katie Hayes, Keri, Kade, Kodi, and Kyle Ellefson-Jones; and a special Aunt and Uncle, Curt and Chris Coplien of Freeport, IL. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Steve Hayes; and paternal grandmother, Joan Ellefson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Parish at St. Victor Catholic Church, Monroe. Concelebrants will be Father Larry Bakke and Father Michael Klarer with interment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, June 10, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance to be held at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Jacob's name.
