I.G. "Jake" Newman

I.G. "Jake" Newman, age 82, passed peacefully on Friday, November 18, 2011. He was a retired Juda farmer. Jake also delivered Monroe Evening Times newspapers on the Juda-Twin Grove route and worked at the Badger Car Wash. Reflecting his love of nature and giving back to his land, Jake was recognized in 1986 with the Wildlife Habitat Development Award by the Department of Land Conservation.

Jake had four children from his first marriage to Barbara (Phillips) Werner: Becky Newman, Middleton; Karen (Newman) Wickman (deceased); Tim (Deb) Newman, Monroe; Marcia (Jim) Newman, Los Angeles. He also had four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents George & Lydia Newman, sister, Mary Ellen Hurlbert, and his second wife, Gerri Helmeid.

Per Jake's request, a private family celebration of his life has been held.
