Herman Frank Plantikow, Jr., age 78, of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2015, at St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 6, 1937, in Monroe, the son of Herman and Elizabeth (Monte) Plantikow, Sr.
Herman and Caryl Fuchs were married on Aug. 26, 1962 at St. John's United Church of Christ.
Herman and his wife farmed in the Monticello and Albany area for 12 years, before moving to Monroe, where he was instrumental in starting the first recycling business in town in 1978. Herman also worked for Warehouse Charlie, Deppler Cheese Factory, Robert Holtsapple Heating and Varco Prudence in Evansville.
He attended Calvary Chapel Church in Monroe. He enjoyed playing bingo at McDonalds, riding his moped, an occasional trip to the casino and fishing. He was a handyman and could fix anything. He also liked working on cars.
He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren were most important to him.
He is survived by his wife Caryl, of 53 years, children: Tamie (Kenneth) Kreitling, of Garland, Texas; Terri (Kerry Segner) Olson of Browntown, Troy, of Minocqua, Wisconsin; Traci Luebke of South Wayne, Teresa (Duane) Carpenter of Monticello, Todd, Therman and Taryl of Monroe; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 2 on the way.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aug. 7, 1967; mother, Feb. 2, 1984; a son Timothy; brothers, Ralph and Orville; and sister, Dorothy Roth.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home in Monroe with Pastor Chuck Heffelfinger officiating.
