Helen L. Sarbacker age 91 of Browntown, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Monroe Clinic Hospital. Helen was born on September 7, 1923 in Oneco, IL, the daughter of Arthur LeRoy and Irene Pearl (Phillips) Miller. She graduated from Monticello High School and married Earl W. Sarbacker on June 18, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 26, 2007. Helen farmed with her husband in the Monticello and Jordan Center areas for 27 years before moving to Browntown in 1976. She worked for Oaktron Industries for several years and later part-time for the Swiss Colony. She was a former member of Bethel E.U.B. in Monroe and attended Peace United Church in Christ of Browntown where she taught Sunday School for several years. She enjoyed nature, gardening, baking, flowers, and fishing with her husband.
Helen is survived by three children, Wanda (Harlan) Gardner of Pampa, TX, Yvonne Mahlkuch of Monroe, and Harland (Donna) Sarbacker of Caneyville, KT; 13 grandchildren; many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Rolland Sarbacker; a granddaughter, Denise Mahlkuch; a son-in-law, Kenneth Mahlkuch; three brothers, Leland, Wendell, and Gaylord Miller; and a sister, June Olsen.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m., at the Peace United Church in Christ, 312 East South Street, Browntown, with Reverend Wayne Gregory officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established for the Peace UCC in Helen's name. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
