Helen C. Meier, 98, formerly of Warren and Waterman, IL passed away Saturday, October 15, at DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center in DeKalb.

Helen was born March 28, 1913, in Rockford, the daughter of Ransom Lee and Laura (Larson) Cowen and her family moved to Warren the next year. She graduated from Warren High School in 1931 and married George Meier in Warren, May 11, 1942.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, formerly served on the Church Council, and was also a former member of the Warren Women's Club. Helen was employed for many years as a switchboard operator for the Northwestern Telephone Company and later worked at Micro Switch and a local hardware store. She was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed dancing, tending her flower garden, playing Scrabble and card games. She was a friend to many and devoted to her family. After living in Warren for 90 years, she relocated to Waterman in 2004 to live near her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Donald) Erickson of Shabbona; grandchildren, William (Valerie) Rountree of Newburgh, IN, David (Janel) Erickson of Waterman, and Keith Erickson of Shabbona; and one great-granddaughter, Paige Erickson of Waterman.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1970; her beloved daughter, Patricia Rountree in 1977; two sisters and two half-sisters.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Warren, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 19, with visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Helen's name can be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or to the charity of donor's choice.
