Harold Victor Rufer, 93, of Carson City, Nevada, formerly of Janesville, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016 in Nevada. Harold was born on November 6, 1923 to William and Margaret (Gempler) Rufer in Monroe. He was united in marriage to Jean Lewis on October 24, 1948.
Harold was a 1941 graduate of the Monroe High School. He proudly served his country during WWII as a Merchant Marine from 1944-1947. He was a cheesemaker in Monroe from 1945-1955; he then went on to work for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Harold enjoyed golfing, traveling, and going to the casino.
Harold is survived by his children, Victor (Linda) Rufer of Janesville, Daniel Rufer of Beloit, and Barbara (Thomas) Niekamp of Waupaca; five grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Marian Rufer, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; and four brothers, Waldo, Glenn, Lloyd, and Howard.
A Funeral visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the SHRINER-HAGER-GOHLKE FUNERAL HOME, 1455 Mansion Dr. in Monroe. No formal services will be held. A private family burial will be held at Washington Church Cemetery.
