Harold L. Burkhalter, age 82 of Monroe, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born on August 3, 1928 in South Wayne, the son of Ralph and Bessie (Wick) Burkhalter. Harold and Audrey Tennant were married on September 15, 1951 at the Big Hollow Church in Spring Green, WI. He farmed in South Wayne area until February of 1976, then moved to Monroe, where he worked for the City of Monroe Street Department, Green County Fair Grounds, Chalet Cheese Factory, Schultz Excavating, and KB Construction. Harold belonged to St. John's United Church of Christ and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 754.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Audrey; 4 children, Sandy (Steve) Cecil, Tom (Sue) Burkhalter, Barb Burkhalter and Peggy (Ed) Gobeli all of Monroe; 7 grandchildren, Luke (Tami) Cecil, Tami (Dan) Eberle, Adam (Kara) Burkhalter, Dusty Cecil, Amy (Jeff) Kundert, Chris (Katie) Gobeli, and Tim Gobeli; 8 great grandchildren, Joscelin Eberle, Katie and Hollie Cecil, Ashton and Breanne Kundert, Braden & Carter Burkhalter, and Werner Gobeli; Sister Ruth Meier of Monroe; sister-in-law, Geraldine (Cec) Schwichtenberg; brother-in-law, Bob (Janice) Tennant of Spring Green; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Carpenter; father and mother in law; brothers in law and sister in law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday December 22, 2010 at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke funeral home with Reverend Gretchen Sylvester officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established.
