MONROE - H. Carol Burmeister, age 73, of Monroe (formerly of Apple River, IL) died Monday, March 22, 2010 at home following a long illness. She was born October 26, 1936 in Elizabeth, IL., the daughter of Hoyle and Helen (Bastian) Hutchison. She married Jerold Burmeister on March 30, 1957 in Darlington, WI.
Carol was a homemaker working on the family farm and their business, Burmeister Implement, as needed. After moving to Monroe, Carol frequently shopped at Vincent-St. Paul and enjoyed coffee with friends she met at the Red Apple. Carol was an avid animal lover, feeding stray animals and making sure they had a box to sleep in. Carol will always be remembered for her witty sense of humor. She enjoyed writing letters to her family and friends. She was a member of Apple River United Methodist Church.
Carol is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Jackie (Carl) Andrews and son, Dick (Cathy) Burmeister, both of Warren, IL; one granddaughter, Elizabeth; two sisters, Lindy (Bob) Johnson of Punta Gorda, FL and Cathy (Larry) Straight of Hanover, IL; step-grandchildren, Keri (Marc) Wolf, Shelly Andrews, Rhonda (Dean) Fruit, Kari (Nick) Coffey, Jason (Chelsea) Hartzell and Brandon (Ashley) Hartzell; six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant brother, Robert.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the Bartell-Leamon Funeral Home.
Pastor Yoshiya Takahashi will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
