Gotthold "Gus" Mueller

Gotthold "Gus" Mueller, age 82 of Monroe, died at his home on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Gus was born on October 13, 1931 in Dettingen, Germany, the son of the late Johannes and Friederike (Salzer) Mueller. Gus served a carpentry apprenticeship in Germany before coming to the United States in 1956 and settling in Elizabeth, IL. Gus served honorably in the U.S. Army from May 28, 1957 until his discharge on May 1, 1959. He married Connie Krohmer on May 24, 1964 in Elizabeth, IL. Following their marriage the couple moved to Monroe where Gus was employed for 30 years at Kuhne Construction before retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lena, IL and enjoyed traveling, model railroad, and working in his yard and wood shop. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was building a grand tree house in his back yard for his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Mueller of Monroe; three children, Lisa (Jon) Greenleaf of Lake Oswego, Oregon, Dan Mueller (Lori Jester) of Monroe, David (Peggy) Mueller of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Larissa Gille, Elli Mueller, Blake Mueller, Madison Greenleaf, Zachary Greenleaf, Caroline Greenleaf, Michael Mueller, and Matthew Mueller; great-grandchildren, Addison and Audrina Whipple; a brother, Walter (Ruth) Mueller of Germany; and his cousin, Paula Traum of Elizabeth, IL.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 625 Country Lane, Lena, IL, with Rev. Rick Bader officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Lena American Legion. Burial will be at a later date in Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church or Monroe Homecare and Hospice. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
