Gordon J. Zimmerman, age 71 of Monticello, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Monroe Manor.
Gordon was born May 5, 1940 in Monroe, the son of Amos and Kathryn (Gmur) Zimmerman. He attended Purcell Grade School and Monticello High School. Gordon married Ilene Lien and they had two children. He married Carole J. (Engebretson) Olson on October 16, 1975 in Monroe.
Gordon worked at the Washington Mill and was employed for ten years as a lime spreader for Rufer and Son Excavating.
Most recently he hauled grain and milk out of Janesville before retiring in 2007.
He enjoyed playing cards, driving his scooter, and spending time at Lake Montesian in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife, Carole of Brodhead; two step-sons; a brother, Ralph A. (Mabel) Zimmerman of Madison; five sisters, Valerie Torkelson of Monroe, Gloria (Marvin) Thoman of Monticello, Ilene (LaVerne) Schneider of Lena, IL, Kay Krahenbuhl of Argyle, and Grace (Dennis) Feller of Oxford, MS; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Zimmerman of Sun Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-daughter; a brother, Dwight Zimmerman; and two brothers-in-law, Bert Torkelson and John Krahenbuhl.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Washington Reformation United Church of Christ, rural Monticello. Pastor Mary Gafner will officiate with burial to follow in the Washington Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A Memorial fund will be established in Gordon's name.
