Gertrude Aurit, age 73, of Monroe, died on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at her home. She was born on September 9, 1936, in Woelfen, Germany, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Mahlo) Kerkel, coming to the U.S.A. on August 31, 1955, settling in Dubuque, Iowa. Gertrude and George Aurit were married on January 10, 1959 in Dubuque, Iowa, settling in Shullsburg, until George's death in 1986, when Gertrude moved to Monroe. She worked for The Swiss Colony, as a manager for the bakery. Gertrude enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, but she especially loved spending time with her family.
Surviving are her children, Tony Aurit, Chris (Becky) Aurit, Norbert Aurit; grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Aurit, all of Monroe. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, George; brother, John Kerkel.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
A memorial fund is being established in Gertrude's memory.
