Gary Lee Luhman, age 60 of Browntown, a long time Green County District Attorney died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Woodworth, IL, to Edgar C. and Ruth A. (Schuldt) Luhman. He graduated from University of Illinois- Champaign/Urbana with a Political Science degree and went on to receive his Juris Doctor Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School in 1982.

Gary was an assistant District Attorney in Green and Lafayette counties until he became District Attorney in January of 1991. In 1984, he was married to Beth E. (Gordee) Luhman at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead, WI. Gary resigned as Green County District Attorney in October, 2016, and was appointed to a special task force prosecuting cold case sexual assaults as an Assistant Attorney General with the State of Wisconsin. Gary was a member of the Jordan Lutheran Church outside of Browntown, where he was a key member, serving as president, committee member, adult and children's Bible study leader, and various other roles. Gary was a volunteer in 4-H and an active member of Kiwanis, Wisconsin and Green County BAR Associations, and the Republican Party of Green County. Gary was an involved father, supporting many sports teams and extracurricular activities while his children were young, and he traveled often to visit his children and grandsons. Although his father sold their cows to send Gary to college, Gary was always drawn to the country and the outdoors. Gary was an avid gardener, reader, and historian, and he was in the process of writing an autobiography when he died.

He leaves his beloved wife Beth; his children Christopher (Graziela) and grandchildren Matthew and Nichollas of DeForest; Ethan (Sherry) and grandchildren Abram, Owain, and Roman of Glens Falls, NY; Jordan and fiancée Elizabeth Brown of Middleton; and Bryant (Brittany) of Mount Horeb. He also leaves a sister Gina Mae (Jim) LaDoux of Burnsville, MN. He is also survived by his parents, Edgar and Ruth, of Apple Valley MN. He was predeceased by his in-laws, Merlyn and Gloria Gordee.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church, 2227 4th Street, with Pastors Dennis Perger and Ronald Massen officiating. Interment will be in the Jordan Lutheran Church Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Monroe Moose Lodge. Visitation will be at the church on Friday, March 23rd, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorials that will be disbursed to various charities in Gary's name are suggested in lieu of flowers. Gary was a wonderful and dedicated husband, dad, and grandpa. He will be missed dearly by his family and the whole community. He touched many lives through his personal and professional life. He will be remembered by all as a humble and upright man, a follower of Jesus, full of grace and love.
