Gale A. Gohlke, age 77, of Monroe, died peacefully while asleep on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at his home. He was courageous in his battle with pancreatic cancer. He was tenderly cared for by his wife Carol along with his children and many friends from the Monroe and Albany area.
Gale was born on May 12, 1939 in Neshkoro, WI, the son of Arnold and Esther (Phillips) Gohlke. He graduated from Oxford High School and the Wisconsin School of Mortuary Science in Milwaukee. Gale and Carol Kleven were united in marriage on April 15, 1961 at Arkdale Lutheran Church in Arkdale, WI.
Gale was a prominent funeral director for over 50 years, serving area communities, starting in Poynette, Kenosha, Racine, Albany, Janesville, and for the past 21 years serving the Monroe area at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. Gale was very involved in community service through his membership with the Albany Lions Club, and more recently Monroe Lions Club, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge Post #754, Albany Lutheran Church, and more recently Grace Lutheran Church. He also served the Village of Albany as President.
Gale had many dreams and passions. He enjoyed playing golf with family and friends, bowling at the Albany Lanes, and his annual winter trips to the warm places in Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Texas, and Arizona. His greatest joy was time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren at his home in rural Monroe.
