Forrest F. "Dinger" Deininger, age 84, of Darlington, WI, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, at UW Hospitals in Madison. He was born September 4, 1927, in Monroe, WI, the son of John W. and Elsie (Pfund) Deininger. Forrest graduated from Monroe High School in 1945. Following his graduation from high school, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Force Cadets in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1947. Forrest was united in marriage to Joyce Berget on November 22, 1952, at West Wiota Lutheran Church. He co-owned and operated the McNett Chevrolet Auto Dealership in Darlington with Arlin Erickson until 1970. Forrest worked in the construction business for the next 20 years in Iowa and Lafayette Counties. He then worked as a rural mail carrier in the Darlington and Shullsburg area until retiring in 1999. Forrest continued to maintain a woodworking shop in Darlington throughout his life.
Forrest is survived by his wife: Joyce at home; three daughters: Kris (Morris) Andrews of Madison, WI, Joan (Rick) Waniger of La Crosse, WI, and Lisa (Eric) Nelson of Mequon, WI; six grandchildren: Ben and Annie Waniger; Lauren, Michael, Joe, and Kitty Nelson; and one sister-in-law, Hedy Deininger of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Nathan Deininger.
Forrest was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, Darlington Lions Club, Darlington Fire Department, and Veteran of Foreign Wars Lafayette County Post #5268 of Darlington. He was an accomplished trumpet player for the "Past and Present" band of Freeport, IL, and various regional bands. As a young man Forrest earned his pilot's license and raced midget cars. Forrest enjoyed having coffee and trading stories with his friends at the Darlington Mini Mart.
A public visitation will be held Friday, October 14, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Main Street in Darlington. A private family funeral service will be held Friday, October 14, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Connie Peake of Immanuel United Church of Christ officiating.
