BRODHEAD - Evelyn Joy Thorp, age 82, passed away on Monday morning, February 9, 2009, after a short illness at Monroe Clinic Hospital. Evelyn was born August 18, 1927, in Brodhead, WI, the daughter of Oscar and Vera (Douglas) Pinnow. Evelyn graduated from Brodhead High School in 1945. She married Robert Thorp on June 2, 1947. He died on August 10, 2003. Evelyn worked for the Brodhead School District for many years. Evelyn enjoyed wood carving, gardening, sewing, reading, and woodworking with her husband.
She is survived by her son, Dennis (Jeanette) Thorp, Janesville and her daughter, Colleen (Ken) Pokallus of Londonderry, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Emily (Andy) Deremo of Brodhead, step-grandsons, Philip (Roxanne) Sweeney of Onalaska, WI, Luke (Katie) Wolter, Atlanta, Allen, TX, Rebekah (Josh) Wiser, Evansville, WI; her sister-in-law, Edna Thorp, Janesville, and brother-in-law, Mike (Mollie) Ster of Marion, IA. She is also survived by 10 step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, twin daughters and a son, her parents, her brothers, Raymond Pinnow and Donald Pinnow, and her sister, Betty Bliss, triplet great-grandchildren Mina, James, and Eva Twedt.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church ELCA, 700 N. Wright Road, Janesville, WI on Saturday, February 14, 2009 with family and friends gathering at 10 a.m. with service to begin at 11 a.m.; Rev. Steven Ekblad officiating. The D.L.
