Elaine E. Blum, age 74 of Monticello, died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at her home. Elaine was born June 13, 1937 in Minnesota, the daughter of Alfred and Olga (Simonson) Swenson. She married John W. Blum on September 5, 1953 at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello.

Elaine worked at Advance Transformer, Laidlaw Corp., and the former New Glarus TownMart. She spent many years caring for her husband and family. She enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, was an avid doll collector and Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packer fan. The family gatherings included games of Canasta with Grandma Villapondo. Elaine's house plants thrived on the attention she gave.

She is survived by her husband, John W. Blum; two sons, Mike (Sandy) Blum, and Todd Blum (Patty Austin), all of Monticello; four grandchildren, Lukas, Haley, Hannah, and Lilly Blum; two sisters, Pat (Bob) Johnson of Monroe, and Caroline Fiandaca of Dilworth, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Donald L. Blum on Dec. 22, 2008; and a brother, Donald Swenson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at 11:30 a.m., at Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund will be established in Elaine's name.
