Edna Hermine Sonnenburg, 102 of Monroe, passed away, Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe. She was born on December 12, 1913 the daughter of Otto and Marie (Gerke) Hoffmann at her home in Ridgeville, Wisconsin. Edna was united in marriage to Raymond M. Sonnenburg on Nov. 16, 1940 at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ridgeville.
Edna attended both public and parochial schools in Ridgeville. After her schooling she farmed for 10 years, she then went on to work at Oaktron Industries. After moving to Monroe she worked for 20 years at St. Clare Hospital, until her retirement. She had been a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe.
Edna is survived by her children, Rodney Sonnenburg of Bloomingdale, IL, Robert (Linda) Sonnenburg, Ruth (Gary) Johnson, and Sharon (Lenwood) Potts all of Monroe; seven grandchildren, Tamara Balsiger, Tina (Steven) Webster, Renee (Ben) Hansen, Kelly (Mark) Haug, Wendy (Jon) Steinhauer, Joel Potts, and Janeen (Michael Miller) Potts; 12 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Kendra, Mitchell, Kirby, Kelsey, Abby, Kimmy, Jamie, Bailie, Ty, Owen, and Harper; three great-great-grandchildren, Adison, Kallie, and Brooks; and sister-in-law, Lillian Sonnenburg of Mt. Horeb. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, Raymond in 1993, son, Raymond, Jr. in 2006, daughter, Darlene in 2007, two sons in infancy Merlin and Edwin, great-great-granddaughter, Sofia Jo Kubly, four sisters, Luella (Ellis) Gorman, Dora (Edgar) Wonzer, Ruth (Leon) Stagg, and Ruby (Robert) Davenport; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Tabaka officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church until time of service.
