BRODHEAD - Dorothy Krause, age 84, of Brodhead, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Harbor House in Monroe, following a long illness. Dorothy Caroline Yeargan was born on July 24, 1924 in Orford, AL, the daughter of Eddie and Gertrude (Clark) Yeargan. As a teenager, she came to Brodhead and made her home with her aunt and uncle, Clarence and Lydia Leaver. She graduated from Brodhead High School in 1942. On October 20, 1945, she married Laverne Krause at the Brodhead EUB Church. They farmed near Brodhead for 25 years before moving to town. Dorothy worked several years at the Monroe Hospital and also for Caring Hands of Brodhead. She was a lifelong member of the Brodhead United Methodist Church, she served as Sunday School teacher, and volunteered in many other capacities.

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Mary (Richard) Sjoerdsma, Kenosha, WI, Esther Krause, Monroe, WI, Bruce Krause, Madison, WI, William Krause, Roscoe, IL; two brothers, William (Mary Ann) Yeargan and Robert Yeargan of Alabama; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laverne in 1992; a sister, Mary in childhood; a brother, Eddie Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Shelley Krause.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Brodhead United Methodist Church, with Pastor Steve Groves officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday at the D. L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, and from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of services at the church. Donations to Monroe Clinic Hospice will be appreciated by the family.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Monroe Harbor House for the kind and compassionate care Dorothy received in the final months of her life.
