Dorothy D. Gruenberg, age 78 of Monroe, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was born on February 22, 1938, in Freeport, Illinois, the daughter of Walter and Isabelle (Dreibelbis) Drews. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1956. She worked at Swiss Colony for over 30 years. Dorothy was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and the Women of the Moose, chapter #599.
She is survived by her children: Patricia (James) Schmitz of Kenosha, Teresa Gruenberg of Monroe and Debra Gruenberg of Belleville; Steven Gruenberg of Oregon, IL; 4 grandchildren: Chad (Shelley) Schmitz, Curt (Tara) Schmitz, Barret Gruenberg, Avery Gruenberg; 4 great grandchildren: Kayla Schmitz, Olivia Schmitz, Cole Schmitz, Connor Schmitz; a brother, Robert (Joyce) Drews of Monroe; sisters, Carol (Dwayne) Robieson of Lena, IL and Sharon Drews of Monroe; nieces, nephews, friends, and special friend Gerry Schwarze. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Drews, nephew, Daniel Drews.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 24th, at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home, with Reverend Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Monroe Clinic Hospice House or Green County Humane Society.
