Dean W. Thoreson, age 76, of rural South Wayne, WI, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at his brother Gary's home. He was born November 3, 1936 in Monroe, WI, the son of Orville A. and Odelia P. (Larson) Thoreson. Dean graduated from Blackhawk High School in 1954. He entered in to the United States Army in December 2, 1959 and was honorably discharged on March 1, 1962. He was united in marriage to RosaLee Fischer on November 13, 1982 at Zion Lutheran Church in Madison, WI. Dean lived and farmed in rural South Wayne, WI, on the family farm. Dean and Rose farmed in partnership with his brothers, Everett and Gary, his entire adult life. The Thoreson Brothers began dairy farming and later raised purebred hogs and sold them nationwide and also crop farmed for many years.
Dean is survived by his wife: Rose at home; one brother, Everett (Gail) Thoreson of rural South Wayne; a special nephew, Antonio Fischer; and friend, Michael LaForest of Madison, WI. Dean was more than just an uncle, he was like a second father to many of his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Chloe Thoreson.
Dean was a lifelong member of Wiota Lutheran Church, its church council and chairperson of the New Church Building Committee. He was also a member of Lafayette County Board for two terms, Board of Scenic Rivers Energy Co-op for 16 years, Lafayette County Pork Producers, and served as Wiota Town Clerk. Dean had a passion for farming and loved working outdoors. He was also a member of Skilaufers Ski Club in Madison for many years.
Private funeral services will be held for family and friends on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church, 6682 State Road 78 in rural South Wayne with Rev. Luke S. Smetters officiating. Burial will be in East Wiota Cemetery in rural South Wayne with military graveside rites to be accorded by Argyle American Legion Post #251. A private visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday, May 3, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Wiota Lutheran Church. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family.
