David L. Monson, age 69, of Wiota, WI, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, June 24, 2011. He was born September 11, 1941 at Jenk's Maternity Home in Darlington, WI, the son of Paul and Bernice (Vinger) Monson. David lived most of his life in the Wiota area. He attended Hawley School through eighth grade and was a member of the Darlington High School Class of 1959. He worked in Warren, IL, for DeKalb Seed Corn Company from 1960 until he began working in 1961 for FS Farm Company in Gratiot, WI. David was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Libby" McComish on December 30, 1961 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Seymour Township, WI. He later worked for Al's Trucking from 1969 until 1973 while also farming. David began working for Wiota Township in 1972 until his retirement in 2007.
David is survived by his wife: Libby at home; two daughters: Ann (Jeff) Kluesner of Peoria, IL, and Theresa Monson of Darlington; four grandchildren: Joshua, Kayleigh, and Andrew Kluesner, and Mitchell Phillip Monson Long; two great-grandchildren: Stella Rowley and Alexander Kluesner; two brothers: E. Gayle Monson of Wiota and Donald P. Monson of Darlington; one sister: Joyce (Dave) Bevan of Platteville, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Paul and Bernice; two brothers: Gary and Phillip Monson; three brothers-in-law: Tom McComish, John McComish, and Robert Brennan; and one sister-in-law: Kate Monson.
David was a member of Apple Grove Lutheran Church and served on its church council. He was also a member of the Wiota Fire Department. David was a collector of collections, one of which included bald eagles. He enjoyed playing cards, quality time at the mill with friends, playing the lottery, taking fishing trips, traveling, and spending time with his family. David will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at Apple Grove Lutheran Church, 14501 Apple Grove Church Road in rural Argyle with Rev. Daniel L. Bohlman officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Hope Cemetery in Seymour Township. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 28, 2011, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home, 508 Park Place (GPS Users: 130 W. Cornelia Street) in Darlington and on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
