David A. Roberts, 69, passed on during a short residency at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Monroe on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 after struggling with health issues for a number of years. He was born in Long Beach, California on September 20, 1947 and spent most of his adult life on the road as an independent long-haul truck driver. His traveling companion for many years was his beloved black Chow Chow, Bear.
As trucking became more difficult due to his failing health, David retired in 2008, making Monroe his home base and meeting new people through Triangle Truck Center and the Turner Hall of Monroe. He was an avid reader.
A sister, Rhonda (Barry) Aboltin of Tehachapi, California, survives him. Per David's wishes, his cremains were privately interred with those of his dog, with no services.
