WINSLOW - Corabelle June Reuber, 87 of rural Winslow, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at her home.
She was born at her parent's home in the Christian Hollow Area, Stephenson County, Illinois, on March 3, 1921, the daughter of Arthur and Amy (Buss) Ellis. She married Clifford Fremont Reuber on October 28, 1942 at the home of her parents, which was part of the J. Lincoln Homestead established in 1844. Corabelle and Clifford were life long farmers in the area since 1951; she also pursued her teaching career. After high school Corabelle obtained a 2-year elementary teaching certificate from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Her teaching career began in the rural school for 4 years and then 2 years at the Winslow Grade School. Before retiring in 1965, she acted as a substitute teacher.
In 1992 she and Clifford retired from farming. Corabelle was a member of the Stephenson County Home Extension for many years. A member of the Winslow United Methodist Church she also was a member of the United Methodist Women's group since 1942. Corabelle was on the board of trustees for Christian Hollow Cemetery. An extensive genealogist, she also enjoyed writing poetry. Some of her poems were published in various newspapers and magazines.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford "Tip" of Winslow, IL; two daughters, Doris (Art) Butler of Winslow, IL and Rita (Sam) Vitale of Brookings, OR; one sister, Dorothy (Theron) Ditzler of Pearl City, IL; grandchildren, Sherri (Rob) Zimmerman of Pecatonica, IL, Sheila (Rick) Amborn of Lena, IL, Clifford (Lisa) "Cliff" Vitale of Sacramento, Ca., Salvatore "Sal" (Katie) Vitale of Galt, CA; and great-grandchildren, Zachary "Zach" (Steph), Travis John "TJ", Merisa Amborn, Kaitlin and Kyle Zimmerman, and Kaylee Vitale; brother-in-law, Warren Reuber of Ridott, IL; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Auvinen of Freeport, IL and Norma Lotta of Orangeville, IL. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Corabelle was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Merwyn Ellis; one brother-in-law, Francis Lotta; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Reuber.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Leamon Funeral Home, 703 Taylor Street, Winslow, Illinois. Pastor Diane Jochum will officiate the services.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 at Leamon Funeral Home 210 West Main St., Lena, Illinois.
Burial will be in Christian Hollow Cemetery, Winslow, Illinois.
