NEW GLARUS - Clayton Engen, age 87, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012 at the New Glarus Home. He was born on April 3, 1924 to his parents Erick and Thea (Lokken) Engen. Clayton graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1941. On September 10, 1950 he was united in marriage to Betty Duerst. Over the years Clayton owned and operated the North Star and the Idle Hour Bar. Clayton and his wife Betty later built the Swiss Lanes in New Glarus in 1959 and operated it for over fifty years. He was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Clayton loved and enjoyed his family and grandchildren. He was also a loyal Badger fan with season tickets for football, basketball, and hockey, and enjoyed his travels to the north woods of Wisconsin.

Clayton is survived by his wife Betty of New Glarus, sons Randy (Debbie) Engen of McFarland, WI and Rick Engen of New Glarus, grandchildren Nicholas Engen of Denver, CO, Ericka Engen of Houston, TX, Jordan Engen of Milwaukee, and Jenson Engen of Middleton, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Hazel Duerst and Berneice Norland, and brother Donald Engen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Craig Jan-McMahon officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.
