MONROE - Clarence Chester Rufer, age 77, recently of Davenport, Florida, and Mt. Horeb, WI, died Monday, May 5, 2008 at Don and Marilyn Anderson Hospice Center of Fitchburg. He was born on March 12, 1931 in Monroe, the son of Edward and Marianna (Brugger) Rufer. He attended Monroe High School. Clarence married Pamela S. Shepard on October 20, 1956 at St. George's Catholic Church in Kenosha, WI. Clarence was a farmer and later owned and operated Rufer Refrigeration and Electric Service Inc. Clarence was a member of St. Victor's Catholic Church; Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #754; the Monroe Antique Wheelers; Independent Order of Forresters; and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela S. Rufer of Mt. Horeb; 2 daughters, Nicolet (Randy) Goebel and Shellane Rufer (Christopher) Edseth Sr.; a brother, Roy (Ann) Rufer; 8 grandchildren, Echoleah (Timothy) Rufer, Macylane Becker, Heath Goebel, Atom Goebel, Raven Goebel, Brice Edseth, Chelsea Edseth, and Christopher Edseth Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Willis Rufer, in 1934.
A visitation will be held Thursday evening, May 8, 2008 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home. A Moose Lodge service will be held at 6:15 p.m. at the funeral home, following the visitation.
A memorial fund is being established in Clarence's name.
