He stood mute on the charge May 6. His signature bond was set the same day at $500, with the conditions that he have no contact with the woman or reside with her. He has a pre-trial conference set for June 18.
Felonies
Jerod E. Sandlin, 21, Brodhead, pleaded no contest April 18 to felony bail jumping and Class A misdemeanor charges of theft, criminal damage to property and fourth-degree sexual assault. He is sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation, with the conditions that he complete a sex offender evaluation and any follow-up counseling, undergo any recommended treatment and counseling for alcohol abuse, pay the theft victim $2,000 and pay all court fees and fines. A deferred sentence was entered on a Class F felony conviction of burglary. Dismissed against Sandlin were felony charges of second-degree sexual assault of a child and exposing genitals to a child. Sandlin sexually assaulted a then-15-year-old girl in July 2012 in Brodhead, according to court records. Sandlin is eligible to have this case expunged from his record if he successfully completes his probation. The other convictions stem from a home burglary in July 2011. Court records indicate Sandlin and another man, Orrin Hoyt Marsden, Monroe, broke into a residence in the W300 block of County E in Decatur Township and stole numerous beer steins and collector glasses, bottles of alcohol, a bass guitar, scuba diving equipment, camping gear, china, crystal dishes and a turntable, plus cut out and removed all the copper piping in the home's plumbing and furnace systems. Marsden was convicted and sentenced earlier in April for the burglary.
