Felonies

• The court Thursday sentenced Coty D. D. Sweet, 21, Monroe, to three years probation after he pleaded no contest to strangulation and suffocation.

He faced up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class H felony.

The court dismissed two counts of battery, both class A misdemeanors. He originally faced more than seven years in prison and up to $30,000 in fines.

Court records indicate he grabbed a woman by the throat and choked her Jan. 5 at a Monroe residence.

In a second case, the court Thursday sentenced Sweet to one year in jail with work release privileges, and 40 days credit, after he pleaded no contest to battery.

He faced up to nine months in jail and up to $10,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class A misdemeanor.

Court records indicate he hit a woman in the head and grabbed her throat Jan. 29 in Monroe.

• The court Thursday scheduled an April 27 district attorney conference for Dustin J. Olson, 20, Monroe, who pleaded not guilty to substantial battery, intimidating a witness and disorderly conduct.

Court records allege he threw a can of energy drink at a man who was going to give police information about a fight Feb. 21 at a Monroe business. The can cut the man's chin.

He was convicted of theft, criminal damage to property and bail jumping in 2007.

He was charged with substantial battery, a class I felony; intimidation of a witness, a class G felony; and disorderly conduct, a class B misdemeanor all as a repeat offender. He faces more than 13 years in prison and up to $36,000 in fines, if convicted.

He remains free on a $4,000 signature bond.

• The court March 10 scheduled an April 27 district attorney conference for Shawn A. Wahler, 41, Brodhead, who pleaded not guilty to drunken driving and driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration.

Court records allege he was drunk and had a blood alcohol level of .261 when stopped Dec. 22 on Wisconsin 81 in Monroe township.

He was charged with drunken driving, fifth- or sixth-offense, and driving with a prohibited alcohol concentration, both class H felonies. He faces up to 12 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines, if convicted.

He remains free on a $5,000 signature bond.

• The court Thursday scheduled an April 27 district attorney conference for Mariano Velazco Mariano, 20, Brodhead, who pleaded not guilty to fleeing an officer and obstructing an officer.

Court records allege he failed to stop and increased his vehicle's speed when police signaled him to pull over Feb. 7 in Brodhead. Records also allege he fled on foot to a residence after he stopped his vehicle.

He is charged with attempting to flee an officer, a class I felony, and obstructing an officer, a class A misdemeanor. He faces more than four years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines, if convicted.

He remains free on a $2,400 signature bond.

• The court March 10 entered a not guilty plea and scheduled a May 18 district attorney conference for Brittany N. Mellem, 20, Monticello, who stood mute to possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Court records allege she had marijuana in a small bag and a pipe to smoke marijuana in her possession Feb. 26 in Exeter township.

She is charged with possession of marijuana, a class I felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, an unclassified misdemeanor. She faces more than three years in prison and more than $10,000 in fines, if convicted.

She remains free on a $500 signature bond.

Misdemeanors

The court Thursday sentenced Joel A. Hale, 37, Browntown, to 15 days in jail after he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct.

He faced up to three months in jail and up to $1,000 in fines as part of the plea agreement for the class B misdemeanor.

Court records indicate he yelled and threatened a woman March 31 at a Cadiz township residence.

• The court March 10 entered into an 18-month deferred prosecution agreement with Martha E. Lisser, 44, Monroe, after she pleaded no contest to battery.

She faced up to nine months in jail and up to $10,000 for the class A misdemeanor.

The court dismissed two counts of disorderly conduct, both class B misdemeanors. She originally faced up to 15 months in jail and up to $12,000 in fines.

Court records indicate she kicked and hit a man Dec. 11 at a Monroe residence.
