Felonies
Austyn Richard Althaus, 18, Monroe, was released on a $2,000 signature bond Monday in Green County Circuit Court in a case involving felony charges of theft and arson filed May 5. As part of the court order, Althaus is to have no contact with John M., McCormick Quarry, Behr Salvage or N400 County J, Monroe. Althaus is charged with a Class G felony theft of movable property valued at more than $10,000, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $25,000 or both, and a Class I felony arson of property other than a building, which carries a punishment of up to 42 months in prison, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. A preliminary hearing was set for July 2.
Nicholas Alexandre Elmer, 20, New Glarus, was released on a $2,000 signature bond Monday in Green County Circuit Court in a case involving felony charges of theft and arson filed June 13. As part of the court order, Elmer is to have no contact with John M., McCormick Quarry, Behr Salvage or N400 County J, Monroe. Elmer is charged with a Class G felony theft of movable property valued at more than $10,000, which carries a punishment of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $25,000 or both, and a Class I felony arson of property other than a building, which carries a punishment of up to 42 months in prison a fine of up to $10,000, or both. A preliminary hearing was set for July 9.
Brett Lee Niemann, 21, South Wayne, made an initial appearance and was released Monday on a $3,000 signature bond in a case filed June 3. He is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property worth between $5,000 and $10,000, and as a part to a crime, Class H felonies. A Class H felony carries a fine not to exceed $10,000 or imprisonment not to exceed six years, or both. A preliminary hearing was set for July 17.
Misdemeanors
Tyler J. Guth, 20, Monroe, was given a deferred sentence Monday in Green County Circuit Court for a misdemeanor charge of criminal damage to property, filed Jan. 2. Three other misdemeanor charges in the case, regarding the breaking of a DNR tag, failure to attach an ear tag to a deer carcass and theft of movable property, were dismissed on the prosecution's motion. In a second case filed Jan. 10, a forfeiture charge of transporting a deer without tagging was dismissed. Guth pleaded no contest in a third case, filed Jan. 10, for a forfeiture charge of larceny of game and was found guilty. He was fined $2,152.
Sean Michael Bongard, 24, Evansville, was released on a $500 signature bond, after making his first appearance in Green County Circuit Court Monday. He is charged with a Class A misdemeanor of retail theft of less than $500, modified to name him as a party to a crime, in a case filed April 15. The court ordered that he may not possess or consume any intoxicants and is to have no contact with Puempel's Tavern. Class A misdemeanors are punishable by up to 9 months in jail, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. Bongard waived of speedy trial; a pretrial conference was set for Aug. 19.
John Timothy Matthews, 23, Monroe, was returned to Green County Circuit Court Monday on a bench warrant issued June 3. He was released on a $750 signature bond. In the case filed May 21, he is charged with possession of THC, an unclassified misdemeanor, which carries a fine of not more than $500 or not more than 30 days in jail, or both. A pretrial conference was scheduled for Aug. 19.
Chelsea L. Reine, 22, Brodhead, made an initial appearance and was released on a $1,500 signature bond Monday, in a case filed June 5 related to a domestic abuse incident May 3. She is charged with disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor, and criminal damage to property, a Class A misdemeanor. A Class A misdemeanor carries a fine not to exceed $10,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 9 months, or both. A Class B misdemeanor carries a fine not to exceed $1,000 or imprisonment not to exceed 90 days, or both. A pretrial conference was set for Aug. 19.
