Felonies

• Eugene C. Mosconi, 40, Warren, Illinois, pleaded guilty Jan. 3 to a Class I felony charge of eluding or fleeing an officer in a vehicle and a misdemeanor charge of operating with a prohibited blood-alcohol content (second offense). Misdemeanor charges of second-offense operating while intoxicated and operating with a revoked license were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Mosconi was sentenced to four months and 10 days in jail. His driver's license is revoked 13 months and he's ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol abuse. He owes the court $2,010 in fines and fees. The case stems from an accident May 7 in the N7100 block of Wisconsin 69, Town of Washington. Police reports indicate Mosconi was driving a motorcycle when he lost control on a curve and hit a guide wire. He sustained severe injuries and was flown by MedFlight helicopter to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. His blood-alcohol content was 0.144 percent.

• Tyler Patrick McCabe, 29, Monroe, was charged Dec. 1 with a Class E felony count of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property, stemming from a home burglary July 5 in the 1500 block of 7th Street in Monroe. Court records indicate a resident in the home called 911 at 2:49 a.m. after being awakened by a scratching noise he thought was an animal outside. He then heard someone walking around in the house and when he opened the bedroom door, he saw a white male holding a smartphone with the flashlight function lit up. Both men were startled, and the burglar immediately left. The resident "stood in his doorway frozen for a couple of minutes contemplating what to do and asking himself what just happened. (He) thought he was dreaming and when he realized he wasn't, he decided to call 911." The burglar cut slits in a window screen to climb into the home. Security surveillance footage showed he was inside for 53 seconds. Nothing was stolen. DNA evidence at the scene matched to McCabe. He signed a $1,500 signature bond and stood mute on the charges. A pre-trial conference is set for Feb. 6.

• Cynthia L. Hughes, 56, Monroe, was charged Dec. 11 with a Class E felony count of hit and run involving great bodily injury, stemming from an accident Sept. 22 in the Monroe Clinic parking lot in Monroe. Court records indicate Hughes was driving when she struck a pedestrian. He told police his foot was stuck under the vehicle for about 10 seconds and in the process of twisting to get free, he fell and sustained an injury to his knee. He said Hughes stopped and told him, "Sorry I didn't see you there but I have to go to work," then drove off. Hughes told police she "didn't see anything or feel anything" and he fell "at least two feet away" from the car. She said she stopped immediately when she saw him and that she and a hospital employee were able to help the man into a wheelchair. He suffered a broken bone and needed surgery to have a pin put in his leg. He told police he was hospitalized for five days and in a nursing home for five weeks due to the injury. Hughes signed a $1,000 signature bond and has status conference Jan. 18.

• Paul Aaron Patterson, 47, Savanna, Illinois, was charged Dec. 15 with five Class I felony counts of failure to pay child support. Court records indicate he was ordered to pay $68/week in child support starting in 2014 but failed to pay between 2015 and 2017. His owes $10,051.85 in arrearages. He signed a $100 cash bond and $9,900 signature bond and has a preliminary hearing Jan. 19.

• Karmen Elisabeth Marshall, 25, Albany, was charged Dec. 21 with a Class A misdemeanor count of issuing a worthless check and felony bail jumping. Court records indicate she wrote a worthless check for $38 to Trackside Mobile, 1109 1st Center Ave., Brodhead, on Oct. 23. Her initial appearance is Jan. 29.
