Charles E. Soddy, age 88, of Monroe, died on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home. He was born on March 31, 1928 at his home in Cadiz Township, the son of Ervin and Laura (Larson) Soddy. He attended Ullom Country School and was a 1946 graduate of Monroe High School.

Charles "Charlie" served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict in Japan from 1950-1952.

Charles "Chuck" and Carolyn Spring were united in marriage on March 13, 1954 at Zwingli United Church of Christ in Monticello.

Chuck was a long time letter carrier for Monroe Post Office. He was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher; and was active in many church activities. He was also a member of Zilmer Riley American Legion Post #84, Cecil Jones VFW Post #2312, and the Sons of Norway.

He was a member of many baseball, softball and bowling teams, and was an avid Badgers, Packers and Brewers fan.

He is survived by his children, Laurie (John) Thill of Albany, Michael (Daniel Bitnar) Soddy of Key West FL; Lonna (Steve) Mayer of Monroe, Jerry (Gina) Soddy of Shullsburg, Tim Soddy of Monroe, Dan (Laurie) Soddy of Franklin; LeAnn (Dean) Anderson of Port Washington, and Brian Soddy of Madison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeremy (Kelsi) Mayer, Lindsey (Andrew) Drake, Josh (Jess) Mayer, Shelby (Nick) Cordoza, Megan (Chris) Walters, Joe (Jennie) Soddy, Callie (Matt) Jones, Taylor (Chelsea) Soddy, Ashley (Jim) Onsager, Ben (Emalee) Soddy, Nate Soddy and Zach Soddy; great-grandchildren, Lauryl, Stella, Christian, Logan, Abby, Natalie, Ellie, Brooklynn, Dylan, Macy, Jacob, Aubree, and a great-granddaughter expected in April; siblings, Clarence (Julia) Soddy, Jim (Janette) Soddy and Vivian (Bob) Lindemann.

He is predeceased by his parents, and wife, Carolyn on Feb. 29, 2012; brothers, Delbert Sr. and Richard Soddy; and grandson, Craig Thill.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Union Presbyterian Church with Jim Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3:00 pm until the time of service, at the church. Burial will be later in Saucerman cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to: Union Presbyterian Church or Zilmer Riley American Legion Post #84 in Monroe.
