Carol E. Meier, 71, of South Wayne, passed away peacefully, on December 18, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Carol was born on January 7, 1943, in Apple River, IL. The daughter of Harry C. and Mary B. (Metcalf) Sigafus, Carol was the youngest of thirteen children. She married Gary Meier on June 24, 1962. They celebrated their 52nd Wedding Anniversary this year. Their marriage was full of love and respect.

Carol was a 1962 graduate of South Wayne High School. She worked a long side Gary on the family farm and babysat for her grandchildren. Carol's family was always a priority.

Carol enjoyed her many collections, but her flower beds and garden was her favorite hobby. She loved being outside, getting her hands dirty and working in God's soil. Carol was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Zion Country Club, volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul and passionate about giving blood.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother and father, five brothers, Mike (Jenny) Sigafus, Charlie (Charlene) Sigafus, Richard (Carol) Sigafus, Gordon "Bud" (Norma) Sigafus, Earl (Paula) Sigafus; four sisters, Violet (Lyle) Hammer, Harriett (Ralph) Fryer, Eleanor (Bud) Williams and Dolly (Paul) Siemens. She was also preceded in death by two sisters in-law, Carol (Richard) Sigafus, Jenny (Mike) Sigafus and four brothers in-law, Lyle (Violet) Hammer, Gerald (Helen) Fox, Paul (Dolly) Siemens and Bob (Veva) Manthei.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary and children, Tadd (Maxine) Meier, of South Wayne, Lori (Rick) McDonald of Gratiot, Tammie Meier-Evenstad of Darlington, Randy (Christy) Meier of Gratiot, Mindy (Jamie) Stietz of Gratiot.

She is further survived by sixteen adoring grandchildren, Cuyler and Austin Meier, Ryan Schneider; Carter, Carley, Brayden and Brenna McDonald; Taryn, Tatum, Taylor and Tanner Evenstad; Sam and Jenna Meier; Chase, Cade and Payton Stietz. One great-granddaughter: Katie Schneider. She is also survived by two sisters, Helen (Gerry) Fox, Veva (Bob) Manthei, one brother, John (Rita) Sigafus. She also had many surviving nieces, nephews, and extended family too large to mention but much too important to omit.

Carol fought a brave battle with brain cancer; she always had a smile on her face and her family by her side. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Monroe Clinic Hospice nurses who helped care for Carol in her last days. Their support was greatly appreciated.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at St. Paul's United Church of Christ County DD and Butts Rd., South Wayne, with Pastor Sonya Heiser officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Warren, Illinois.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 20th, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Dr., and N. 18th Avenue in Monroe.
