NEW GLARUS - Betty Engen, age 84, of New Glarus passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the New Glarus Home two days after the passing of her husband Clayton. She was born on July 24, 1927 in New Glarus to her parents Jacob and Lydia (Sabroff) Duerst. Betty graduated from New Glarus High School. On September 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Clayton Engen. Betty and her husband owned and operated Swiss Lanes in New Glarus for over fifty years. She was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Betty enjoyed her family and times up north.

Betty is survived by her sons Randy (Debbie) Engen of McFarland, WI and Rick Engen of New Glarus, grandchildren Nicholas Engen of Denver, CO, Ericka Engen of Houston, TX, Jordan Engen of Milwaukee, and Jenson Engen of Middleton, WI, a brother Jim (Aletha) Duerst of Big Bend, WI and a sister Judy (Tom) Stuessy of Tulsa, OK.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clayton, and a sister Virginia Babler.

Joint funeral services will be held for Betty and Clayton at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Craig Jan-McMahon officiating with burial in the Swiss Church Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6th Ave., New Glarus, WI.
