NEW GLARUS - Anna Marie Klassy, age 86, passed away on Sunday morning January 29, 2012 at the New Glarus Home after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. She was born on November 3, 1925 to Emil and Anna (Bodenman) Schweizer on the family farm in Jordan Township, Green County, Wisconsin. After attending rural schools and Monroe Public Schools she entered Monticello Public School to finish the fifth through eleventh grades. Anna graduated from Antioch High School with the class of 1944. On August 21, 1947 she married Roger E. Klassy at Zwingli Church in Monticello, Wisconsin. Anna worked for almost 25 years in the bookkeeping departments at the Bank of Monticello and the Bank of New Glarus. She taught Sunday school for about 15 years in the Zwingli Church at Monticello and the Swiss Church at New Glarus, and also was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Anna worked as a tour guide at both the Swiss Historical Village and the Chalet of the Golden Fleece in New Glarus. She served as Poppy Day Chairwoman and chaplain with the New Glarus American Legion Auxiliary Unit and also served as chaplain for the Green County American Legion Auxiliary.

Anna is survived by her husband Roger Klassy of New Glarus, WI, daughter Nedra Klassy-Disch of Brodhead, WI, son Michael (Bonnie) Klassy of Monticello, WI, and daughter Renee (Jerry) Groom of New Glarus, WI, granddaughters Angela (Tim) Hocking of Monroe, WA, Andrea (Jeff) McSherry of Onalaska, WI, Alisa Klassy of Madison, WI, grandson Branden Disch of Ocean Shores, WA, great-granddaughters Emily Hocking and Sara McSherry.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Roy Schweizer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the New Glarus Home Chapel, 600 2nd Ave., New Glarus, WI with the Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating with burial in the Highland Cemetery, Monticello, WI.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the New Glarus Home Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, WI, the New Glarus Home Auxiliary, the Monroe Clinic Hospice, or the charity of the donor's choice.
