Anna M. (Anne) Pickett, age 85 of Monroe, a long time resident of Pleasant View Nursing Home, died Thursday, April 17, 2008. Anne was born December 2, 1922 in Iowa County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Fred and Wilhelmina (Kainz) Gempler. She worked at the Monroe Hotel and in Rockford before her marriage to Samuel Barton Pickett on February 20, 1943 at St. Victor Catholic Church. Following her marriage, Anne worked for over 30 years at the Swiss Colony before retiring in 1984 with the position of packing supervisor. She was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church of Monroe and enjoyed gardening, bowling, and traveling with her husband. She loved to golf and enjoyed a yearly spring golfing trip to Arkansas with her husband and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Bart Pickett of Monroe; a son, Gerald (Karen) Pickett of Oconomowoc, WI; a daughter, Kathleen (Ray) Podgorski of Janesville; five grandchildren, Andrew, Terry, and Mike Pickett, Samantha and Jennifer Podgorski; a sister, Katherine Phillipps of Monroe; and a special niece, Theresa Dye of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe. Concelebrants will be Father Michael Klarer of St. Victor's and Father Roger Nilles of St. Peters Catholic Church in Madison. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 22, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
